1. UN ESCAP forecast India's GDP for FY21 at 4.8%


  • India's GDP growth for the current fiscal is expected to slow down to 4.8%, a UN report has said
  • It has warned that COVID-19 pandemic is expected to result in significant adverse economic impacts globally
  • The report is title 'Economic and Social Survey of Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) 2020: Towards sustainable economies'.

2. Rs 15,000 crore for COVID-19 Emergency response


  • The Centre has sanctioned Rs. 15,000 crore for India COVID-19 Emergency Response and Health System Preparation Package
  • Out of it, Rs 7,774 crore will be utilised for immediate COVID-19 Emergency Response
  • The aim of the package is to strengthen and build resilient National and State Health Systems to support prevention and preparedness for future disease outbreak.

3. Anamika Roy: MD & CEO of IFFCO Tokio


  • IFFCO Tokyo General Insurance Company has appointed Anamika Roy Rashtrawar as its Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer
  • The appointed is effective from March 27, 2020
  • Rashtrawar, who takes over from Warendra Sinha after his retirement, is the first woman MD & CEO of a large private sector general insurance company in India.

4. 24x7 Health Channel dedicated to COVID-19


  • A 24x7 Health Channel dedicated to COVID-19 has been introduced fort localities in Nicobar district
  • The channel is available in 3 languages Hindi, English and Nicobari
  • The channel provides information covering the basis preventive measures like cleanliness and sanitation, maintaining social distancing and health advisory by doctors.

5. ESIC hospitals declared COVID-19 centres


  • 8 Employees State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) hospitals with her 1000 isolation bed have been declared as dedicated COVID-19 hospitals, in India
  • These are situate un Gujarat, Haryana, Rajasthan, Jammu, Himachal Pradesh, Jharkhand, and West Bengal
  • In addition to this, around 1,112 isolation beds have been made available in most of the remaining ESIC Hospitals across the country.

6. Delhi Government launched 'Operation SHIELD'


  • Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal announced 'Operation SHEILD' in 21 containment zones to curb the spread of COVID-19
  • He also warned of strict action against those misbehaving with healthcare personnel in the city
  • In the first stage of the operation, the government will seal the area immediately and its surrounding after geographical marking following positive cases there.

7. L&T won a contract from Indian Army


  • Larsen & Toubro has won a 'large' contract from the India Army for setting up an advanced IT-enabled system to operate the Armed Forces network under the Network of Spectrum (NFS)
  • The value of large order ranges between Rs 2,500 crore and Rs. 5,000 crore
  • The project involves the creation of a resilient Could-based IT Infrastructure on Infrastructure as a Service (IAAS) model.

8. Haryana government doubles salary of Doctors, Nurses


  • Haryana government has declared to double the salary of Doctors, Nurses and other medical professionals dealing with coronavirus patients
  • This will be applicable until the coronavirus period ends
  • These professionals will get ex-gratia benefits between 50 lakh rupees and 10 lakh rupees, if they are not covered under the new insurance cover announced by the Centre.

9. Centre introduced Arogya Setu IVRS facility


  • The centre has introduced the Arogya Setu IVRS facility on a test basis in Tamil Nadu
  • As the 'Arogya Setu' mobile app works in smartphones, the IVRS facility works in feature-phones as well
  • Using the facility, one can track about COVID-19 situation and avail help by giving a missed call or an SMS to the number 94999-12345
  • The technology has been developed by IIT Madras.

10. Hindustan Unilever partnered with UNICEF


  • Hindustan Unilever has collaborated with the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) for a mass communication campaign to inform and empower the general public against the COVID-19 pandemic
  • The campaign brings together the marketing expertise and scale of HUL and the technical knowledge of UNICEF to create engaging communication tools that can help people say safe during the pandemic.
