1. Madhabi Puri Buch got extension a WTM at SEBI

  • The government has extended the appointment of Madhabi Puri Buch as a Whole Time Member (WTM) of SEBI by the period of six months
  • With this notification, the sole female mnenyer of the board will stay on till October 4, 2020
  • She was not only the first woman to be appointed as a WTM of SEBI but also the first person from the private sector to do so.

2. Pravin Rao is Nasscom Chairman

  • Infosys' chief operating officer, UB Pravin Rao, has been appointed as the new Chairman of the National Association of Software and Services Companies (Nasscom), for 2020-21
  • Rekha M Menon, Chairman and Senior Managing Director Accenture in India, will be the Vice-Chairperson
  • The newly appointed leaders will help the industry body achieve its 2025 vision for the country

3. NASA unveils plan to setup 'Artemis'

  • NASA is working on the Artemis program that aims to land humans on the moon by 2024
  • It has put forward a plan showing what a US lunar presence may look like after the milestone
  • NASA submitted a 13-page report to the National Space Council
  • The report titled NASA's Plan for Sustained Lunar Exploration and Development offers a summary of NASA will accomplish the 2024 moon landing mission.

4. VRDE designed full-body disinfection chamber

  • Vehicle Research and Development Establishment (VRDE), Ahmednagar, a DRDO lab, has designed a full-body disinfection chamber called 'Personnel Sanitization Enclosure' (PSE)
  • This walkthrough enclosure is designed for personnel decontamination, one person at a time
  • It is a portable system equipped with sanitizers and soap dispenser. It is a portable system equipped with sanitizers and soap dispenser. It was developed in 3 days using available resources with VRDE.

5. Export curbs relaxed on 24 Pharma ingredients

  • Government has relaxed export curbs on 24 Pharma ingredients and medicines including vitamin B1 and B12.
  • Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) issued a notification in this regard on 6 April 2020
  • DGFT has imposed export restrictions on 26 Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (APIs) and formulations in March 2020, under which exporters has to obtain a licence to permission from the DGFT

6. UNSC to hold its first meeting on COVID-19

  • The UN Security Council  will hold its first meeting on the coronavirus pandemic on 9 April 2020, after weeks of divisions among its five permanent members
  • Nine of he 10 non-permanent members formally requested a meeting featuring a presentation by Secretary General Antonio Guterres
  • The meeting will be held through video-conference.

7. Rs. 1,000 each to 1 lakh migrant workers: Bihar

  • Bihar government has transferred Rs 1,000 each to the bank accounts for over one lakh migrant workers stranded in other parts of the country due to nationwide lockdown
  • Rs. 1,000 per person was transferred in the bank accounts of migrant workers through the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) system
  • Bihar has become the first state in the country to reach out its migrant workforce

8. Kerela installed Walk-in Sample Kiosks

  • Kerela has installed Walk-in Sample Kiosks (WISK) for mass collection of samples for COVID-19 testing om Ernakulam district
  • It is based on South Korean model
  • A Walk-in Sample Kiosk is a mobile cubicle with a sealed glass front, and have extended gloves attached in the front, through which a medical practitioner standing in the cubicle can collect samples.

9. Tamil Nadu: Testing labs more than doubled

  1. In Tamil Nadu, the number of novel coronavirus testing laboratories is being more than doubled in its efforts to contain the spread of the pandemic
  2. In addition to the 17 facilities that are currently operational including eleven in Government Hospitals, 21 more are being installed across the state
  3. In addition, orders have been placed for one lakh rapid testing kits as well.

10. Britannia Industries tied up with Dunzo

  • Britannia Industries has patterned with Dunzo to deliver its range of biscuits, croissants, ghee and dairy whitener, among others to its consumers
  • It has launched a Britannia Essentials store that will be available focusers of the Dunzo app
  • The first batch of deliveries commenced in Bengaluru from 7 April 2020.
